DICOM VIEWER FOR MAC · RESEARCH & EDUCATION

A DICOM viewer for Mac. More ways to explore your study.

Open a local DICOM study, compare its series, and move from slices to MPR and 3D volume rendering. OmniDICOM brings viewing, cine playback and editable DICOM metadata to one Mac desktop application for research and education.

No card required. Paid licence after trial. Trial exports have limitations.

Actual OmniDICOM capture: explore a CT volume in the 2×2 MPR layout. Sample imagery is de-identified; interface details vary by version. Demonstration has no spoken audio.

Open DICOM files on your Mac

Install the signed, notarized macOS PKG, then open OmniDICOM from Applications. Choose File → Open Folder… or drag a DICOM folder into the viewer. Select a series in the left-hand list and scroll through its images.

When copying a study from a disc, keep its folder structure, including DICOMDIR and image subfolders. A Windows-only viewer supplied on the disc cannot run as a Mac app, but its accompanying DICOM images are a separate part of the study. Files do not always have a .dcm extension.

See CT and MRI in more than one plane

For a suitable volume series, the 2×2 MPR layout brings axial, coronal and sagittal views together with a 3D view. Move through the reslices, adjust window and level, then inspect the volume from another angle.

MPR depends on the source study: a single image or a time sequence is not automatically a reconstructable CT or MRI volume. Geometry, slice spacing and the available images affect the result.

Review motion and edit the details

Play multi-frame angiography and ultrasound sequences, pause on a frame and adjust playback speed. For compatible angiographic series, DSA tools add mask selection and pixel-shift alignment.

The DICOM Meta panel lets you inspect tags and edit supported top-level values. This is useful for correcting research labels or series descriptions. Saving metadata writes to the selected files, so work on a copy when preserving originals matters.

Check compatibility before downloading

The current Mac build requires Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later. Intel Macs are not supported by this installer. A separate installer is available for 64-bit Windows 10 and 11.

Study viewing runs locally. An internet connection is needed to start the trial and for licensing and update services; PACS transfers use the servers you configure. The desktop viewer does not require uploading a study to the OmniDICOM website.
