An angio viewer for DICOM cine runs
Open a DICOM angiogram, select the intended run and play it as a cine sequence. Pause, step through neighboring frames or adjust the playback rate to explore the acquisition. Multiple runs can be placed side by side.
Here, angio viewing means reviewing existing angiographic DICOM images. DSA is an additional subtraction workflow for suitable runs; it is not required to play every angiogram. These tools do not claim automatic vessel segmentation, stenosis grading or a clinical diagnosis.
What the DSA tools do
Digital subtraction angiography compares frames in an angiographic run with a reference mask to suppress static background. Motion or a poorly matched mask can leave residual edges, so choosing and aligning the mask affects the result.
OmniDICOM supports subtraction for compatible angiography and fluoroscopy series with XA, XRF or RF modality information. A general CT volume or an ordinary MRI stack is not the same input as an angiographic run.
From the original run to a subtracted view
- Open the DICOM series and select its image panel.
- Choose Tools → DSA subtraction or press / to toggle subtraction. Runs stored as subtraction studies may already open with DSA enabled.
- Move to an appropriate reference frame and choose Use current image as mask if you need a different mask.
- Inspect the subtraction while stepping through frames or playing the run. Toggle DSA off to compare with the original display.
The overlay reports the mask frame and applied shifts. Original and subtracted displays keep separate window settings.
Align with pixel shift or a split mask
Manual pixel shift lets you drag the mask or make smaller keyboard adjustments. Auto pixel shift uses a selected image region to find an alignment and can track it as you move through the run.
If the two sides need different corrections, Split mask lets you adjust them separately. Inspect the result across the sequence: alignment is an image-processing operation, not a guarantee that every structure will cancel correctly.
Understand what Magic Mask changes
Magic Mask computes a registration of the mask to the frames of the run. It is a one-shot computation; when complete, its result remains applied. It is not a switch that continuously runs in the background.
This transformation can slightly bend straight structures. Keep that distinction visible in research work and compare against the source. Reset mask clears the Magic Mask result, shifts and split-mask state; choosing another mask also discards the old Magic Mask result.
Common questions
Does DSA require the Professional plan?
No. DSA subtraction, mask tools, cine playback and export are included in Basic. Professional adds the Process and Analyze workspaces.
Why are there doubled edges after subtraction?
Movement between the reference mask and later frames can leave background edges. Review the mask selection and pixel-shift tools. An unsuitable source run or complex motion may still prevent a clean subtraction.
Can I use this for clinical diagnosis?
No. OmniDICOM is research and education software, not a medical device or a diagnostic workstation. DSA tools do not change that intended use.
